Defence Acquisition recognises that not only must military equipment deliver the required functional performance, but it must be reliable, maintainable and supportable in the environment in which it is destined to be used.

This "Operational Availability" is achieved through a programme of Supportability Engineering to influence system design for reliability, maintainability and supportability, and by designing, developing and fielding an appropriate support solution. In Defence these objectives are delivered through a mandated programme of Integrated Logistic Support (ILS) conducted in accordance with Defence Standards and Conditions.

Furthermore, Equipment is only one part of the equation. To deliver Military Capability, equipment functionality must be fully integrated with Military Doctrine and there must be available the necessary infrastructure and trained, resourced and organised manpower to operate and maintain the equipment through life. This is achieved through the discipline of Through Life Capability Management (TLCM) and the delivery of the Defence Lines of Development (DLOD).

SE4D specialises in the provision of Supportability Engineering, Integrated Logistic Support (ILS) and Through Life Support (TLS) services to Customers and Suppliers in the Defence Acquisition environment. We have also grown to offer our Customers a plethora of Defence Acquisition support services in association with a network of like minded individuals and small companies. Who We Are

We are a networked collection of like minded individuals with depth and breadth of experience as Users, Customers and Suppliers in the Defence Acquisition environment. Many of our team have first hand experience operating and maintaining military equipment during training and on Operations. We have worked as members of the Armed Forces, MOD and Government agencies in delivering and supporting equipment and services at all stages of the lifecycle, in Core Equipment Programmes and through Accelerated Acquisition including Urgent Operational Requirements.

Our safety managers also work as Independant Safety Advisors to the Customer community, our ILS Managers and Project Managers have lead delivery of major Defence programmes and Urgent Operational Requirements on behalf of the MoD Defence Equipment and Support (DE&S) project teams. Our Training Analysts and Instructors have a wealth of Operational experience within the Armed Forces. We are supporting the MoD, Prime Contractors and Small and Medium Enterprises (SME) today. Who I Am

A chartered mechanical engineer with post graduate qualifications in Defence Logistics Management and Reliability and Maintainability, and extensive experience in Defence Acquisition; specialising in Supportability Engineering, Through Life Support, Integrated Logistic Support (ILS), and Reliability & Maintainability (R&M).

I spent over 18 years as an Army Officer in a professional engineering environment, initially providing Equipment Support to deployed units of the Army, and then for 9 years within various Project Teams in the procurement of a wide range of complex electronic and mechanical systems. In my last Army post, I was employed within the Defence Equipment and Support (DE&S) Through Life Support Directorate, giving specialist advice, support, mentoring and assurance to project teams, including Subject Matter Expert (SME) support to Tender Assessment Panels.

Since leaving the Services, I have worked as a consultant within Defence Acquisition where I have established and delivered numerous successful ILS and R&M programmes during all phases of acquisition, UOR and Main Programme, on behalf of Defence Suppliers. I have also grown SE4D capability through networking, to deliver a plethora of Defence Acquisition programme functions including Project and Bid Management, Integrated Logistic Support, Training, Safety and Environmental Management, Risk, Security, and Requirements Management and Engineering.
